B Corp Best for the World: Governance

The Best for the World are B Corps who earn scores in the top 5% of all B Corps worldwide in one or more of the five impact areas assessed in the certification process. For 2021, Wetherby has been recognized for our efforts in Governance, which encompass ways in which we hold our leadership accountable for meeting social and environmental goals and our dedication to following our mission. With the 2020 Best for the World postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this marks our second consecutive recognition in the category. Wetherby was also recognized in the Workers, Customers and Changemakers areas in prior years.

Establishing the right vision and mission is key to starting a company’s journey to meet and exceed the high standards of performance expected of a B Corp. Our governance structures provide the roadmap we follow along that journey. We have developed processes for accountability and transparency to ensure that our mission, values and goals are upheld in all of our decisions and that our stated priorities are supported by measurable action. We believe that these principles represent the foundation of much of our success and are what has earned us this recognition from B Lab™. Our organizational commitment to good corporate citizenship and sustainable practices is backed by measurable action. Transparency and accountability are at the core of the trust we have earned from our clients and other stakeholders. Whether through major initiatives like our comprehensive impact reporting that we are pleased to make available to our clients or the small choices we make each day in our offices to operate in ways that support our environment, we are mindful of living our values at each turn.

We also know that, within our industry, every choice we make about the ways in which we deploy capital has a tangible impact on the justice and sustainability of the world around us. This is why we include Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) and Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) considerations in our standard due diligence process for all investments and work to understand and monitor the ESG and DEI practices of the fund managers with whom we work. Our latest Annual Impact Report has more details on these initiatives and many more.

As all B Corps are already businesses that meet the highest standards of verified social and environmental performance, public transparency and legal accountability to balance profit and purpose, being named a Best for the World B Corp makes us deeply proud and eager to go further with our work. We will continue collaborating with the global B Corp community to improve and positively impact all of our stakeholders.

“Best for the World is a special program for the B Corp community, and we’re thrilled to resume it after pausing the program in 2020 due to COVID-19,” said Juan Pablo Larenas, Executive Director of B Lab Global. “This year’s Best for the World companies are operating at the very top of their class, excelling in creating positive impact for their stakeholders, including their workers, communities, customers and the environment. We’re proud of the community of stakeholder-driven businesses we’ve cultivated over the last 15 years; together we’re marching toward our collective vision of an inclusive, equitable and regenerative economic system for all people and the planet.”

The B Corp Best for the World: Governance list is published by the nonprofit B Lab and determined by the verified score on the B Impact Assessment of Certified B Corporations as of May 31, 2021. In order to be eligible for consideration for inclusion in Best for the World 2021 lists, a company must be a Certified B Corporation in good standing by the 1st of June 2021. Companies holding the status of Pending B Corporation on the 1st of June 2021 are not eligible Companies must be no more than 12 months overdue on recertification by the 1st of June 2021. Any B Corps overdue recertification for up to 12 months must have already applied for the process.

To earn placement on the Best for the World: Governance list, honorees must score in the top five percent of B Corps in the Governance section of the B Impact Assessment in the company’s respective size grouping. These size groupings are: 0 employees, 1 to 9 employees, 10 to 49 employees, 50 to 249 employees and 250 or more employees. Wetherby falls into the 50 to 249 employees grouping. The governance section of the assessment evaluates a company’s overall mission, ethics, accountability and transparency. It measures whether the company has adopted a social or environmental mission, and how it engages its employees, board members and the community to achieve that mission. The Governance portion also assesses employee access to financial information, customers’ opportunities to provide feedback and the diversity of the company’s governing bodies. Please note that while Wetherby does not pay a fee to participate in the B Corp Best for the World rankings, we do pay fees to B Lab to maintain our B Corp certification.
