Why Wetherby Chose to Certify
We see certification as an opportunity to support a community that upholds similar values to those on which we were founded. The B Corp community and triennial recertification process encourages us to enact best-in-class organizational practices and continuously engage with our stakeholders to ensure we uphold our commitment to high social, environmental and governance standards.
Why Do B Corps Matter?
We believe we are all responsible for each other and for future generations with the choices we make. B Corps aim to redefine business success by holistically considering and improving their impact on society and the environment. By voluntarily meeting higher standards of transparency, accountability and performance, B Corps distinguish themselves by offering a positive vision of a better way to do business.
What is a B Corp?
B Corps are for-profit companies certified by the nonprofit B Lab as meeting enhanced standards of social and environmental performance, public transparency and legal accountability. This global movement includes a community of over 3,800 B Corps in 150 industries and 74 countries.1
The Certification Process
The non-profit B Lab™ conducts a rigorous audit, the B Impact Assessment, to certify B Corps. Companies report on over 250 questions about their operations, organizational practices and business model. These responses are independently verified and scored by B Lab. Only companies that exceed a scoring threshold are eligible for certification. Certified B Corporations then undergo a recertification process every three years to ensure transparency, progress and continued commitment to these holistic business standards. As a Certified B Corporation we’re not just responsible, we’re also accountable.
Wetherby certified initially in 2016 and recertified in 2018, improving upon our 2016 score by 23% in our recertification. In the most recent awards in 2019, we were honored to be recognized as B Corp Best for the World in four categories: Customers, Workers, Governance and Changemakers.2 We believe this recognition highlights our ongoing commitment to building a values-aligned organization and demonstrating that business can be a force for good for all stakeholders. We are proud of the significant and measurable strides we made in improving our impact as a Certified B Corporation and look forward to opportunities to continue deepening our impact in the future.
